Tungsten Tetraiodide
Introduction
Name: Tungsten Tetraiodide
CAS: 14055-84-6
Formula: WI4
Molecular weight:691.458
Relative Density: 5.218
Property
Physical properties: Black powder.
Chemical properties: Decompose to tungsten diiodide and iodine when heated in the air with no fixed melting and boiling point, susceptible to hydrolysis, easily oxidized; easily being restored by pyridine, acetonitrile and other nitrogen-containing ligand compound to form the corresponding complexes in the air.
Solubility
It decomposed at the melting temperature, insoluble in cold water, but decomposed in the hot water; soluble in ethanol, insoluble in ether, chloroform, turpentine.
Synthesis
Generated by the hydrogen reduction of tungsten hexachloride, or the reaction of triiodide aluminum and tungsten dioxide.
