Nature

Hexacarbonyl tungsten can be dissolved in ether, 2-methoxyethyl ether, hexane ect., and sublimate in vacuum.

Preparation

1. Hexacarbonyl tungsten can be prepared by tungsten powder and carbon monoxide at elevated temperature and pressure;
2. Or generated by taking zinc or aluminum as a reducing agent, and pleasing tungsten hexachloride and carbon monoxide in ether to carry out carbonylation reaction;
3. Also place the tungsten hexachloride and hexacarbonyl iron in ether to carry out a reaction with high pressure in the hydrogen;
4. Besides, the way placing tungsten hexachloride and triethylaluminum in benzene in the condition of 50℃, 7000kPa with carbon monoxide for butane(C4H10) taken off .

Application

Hexacarbonyl tungsten can be used for preparing high-purity tungsten powder, catalyst, organic synthesis.

Danger

Hexacarbonyl tungsten is usually slightly harmful to water, non undiluted product or large quantity of it is allowed to contact with ground water, water course or sewage system; do not allow material discharged into the surrounding environment without government permission.
