Nature
Tungsten ditelluride (WTe 2) is a transition metal chalcogenide having a layered structure, a tungsten chain along the a-axis direction form a tellurium layer in which the quadrature unit cell dimensional distribution, a semi-metallic material with non-magnetic.
Application
WTe2 has already perceived by people because of its good thermoelectric properties. Cava as a professor at Princeton University with his study group accidentally discovered in 2014 that WTe2 has unsaturated large magnetoresistance (the LMR) property at atmospheric pressure (Nature, 514 (2014) 205), i.e., this material unusually exhibits large positive resistance effect in the magnetic field, also it is not saturated even at very high magnetic field. This feature not only provided a potential possibility for their application in electronic devices, but also has opened up a new direction for the study of large magnetoresistive material. In the semi-metals, the very high reluctance is generated by the hole-between electrons "resonance", and WTe2 is the first one material with a perfect resonance which has discovered.
